A COMMUNITY FOOD AND AGRICULTURE PROGRAM
OUR PROJECT : SUPPORTING LOCAL FOOD SYSTEMS THROUGH LOCAL AMAP*(1) PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN CONSUMERS AND SMALL FARMERS IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF SUSTAINABILITY
Alliance National Network and Alliance Provence have choosen the Civam Aquitaine Network to represent them for the AMAP Certification program: This is an independant verification scheme that ensures AMAP are working to the recommended criteria ( See AMAP standards). It will become a condition of Alliance membership in 2007-2008.
THE REGIONAL CIVAM*(2) NETWORK (Fédération régionale des CIVAM) is a non-profit organization and is gathering 20 rural and farming and consumers communities troughout the region of Aquitaine (France).
It's connected to 10 other regional networks in France. They are all together focusing on rural and urban communities supported by locally-based food and agriculture systems in which small farms and rural businesses and citizens work together for mutual well-being.
The mission of The Civam network Task Group is to support and encourage the sustainability of healthy, thriving small farms that contribute to food security, healthy rural communities, and the environment by encouraging small farms focused research and extension programs, and fostering collaboration in support of small farms.

County Civam Consortiums are in charge to support community-based food and agriculture programs with Development specialists in the following campaigns: Strenghtening the relationship between local consumers and local farmers, Supporting community-based farming and food systems that are ecologically sound, economically viable and socially equal, Establishing a strong regional marketing identity, Developping new markets for farm products and improve farm viability and profitability, organizing events featuring products made in the different areas by wine growers, small-scale processors, small farmers.

RECONNECTING LINKS BETWEEN FARMERS AND CONSUMERS
"BUY LOCAL" programs, Farm-to-school education, public events, Farmers Market, agritourism, Eat organic at school, eco-tourism, reading the rural landscape...etc.
1-REGIONAL EVENT "DE FERME EN FERME EN AQUITAINE", ("From farm to farm"), to bring urban and rural neighbors together for two days with the Aquitaine Family, Food, and Farm Tour and a taste of country, to discover local food system and to encourage consumers to purchase locally-produced farm products, strolling in the countryside. 2-" Buy local" Initiative Program in Bearn : A COOPERATIVE FARM STORE IN PAU ( Atlantic Pyrenees)
Forty local small farmers have created a cooperative retail store to sell directly their products : with a very good parking place and precise road signs, it presents a large sample of organic fresh farm products ( meat, vegetables, milk) and processed food ( jellies, goat's, ewe's and cow's milk cheeses, sausages, Preserved Goose and Duck meats,Jurançon and Madiran wines).

3-GROWING "BEARN WHITE BEANS" ON CORN STALKS : A COMMUNITY-BASED AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SYSTEM INITIATIVE -
WHITE BEANS, a sample of typical product of Béarn, were a common staple food in the rural communities of the Pyrenees Foothills and the Adour Valley until the years 50. In the 80', a group of small farmers has initiated a project to develop this specialty crop suited to the Adour Basin.To establish a strong local marketing identity and value-adding, they have applied for registering the product name as a PDO label ( Protected Designation of Origin) "Bearn white beans growing on corn stalks", and they are promoting the product through diverse consumer audiences to build consumer's trust.

1 - FRESH ORGANIC FOOD AT SCHOOL !
Forty small farmers of the CIVAM BEARN COMMUNITY are organizing a supply-chain service which offers daily delivery of fresh organic fruits and vegetables in school cafeterias!

2 - DEVELLOPING A COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE PROGRAM in Aquitaine
In partnership with Alliance, a new project of CSA/AMAP is being developed by a group of consumers of the Bordeaux , Bearn, Périgueux, Pays Basque Areas. The concept is to link a small farm and a group of local consumers through a subscription on products sales for the growing season: each week, you get your fresh fruits and vegetables basket, grown without chemicals.
90 CSA are starting in the Pau , Périgueux, Pays Basque and Bordeaux Areas
Each CSA/AMAP can delivery up to 60 families.
